Roofers in Eastbourne

Eastbourne is a genteel East Sussex seaside resort below the chalk of the South Downs, with mile upon mile of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, villas and seafront hotels. The resort stock is roofed in natural slate and clay tile, often behind parapets, and the sea sets the terms: salt-laden wind and driving rain off the Channel corrode ferrous fixings and lift under-secured slate, while the large seafront roofs are especially wind-exposed.

The chalk-edge setting is relatively dry inland but the coast is harsh. For Eastbourne owners, the rules are coastal — copper or stainless fixings rather than iron, mechanical fixing of slates and ridges, and generous headlaps — and on the terraces budget for the parapet and valley gutters as much as the open slopes. Flat-roofed extensions on the suburban stock need renewing on their own cycle; keep gutters and flashings maintained against the salt.
