Roofers in Peterborough

Peterborough is a cathedral city on the fen edge with a very particular building history: it was the heart of the English brick industry, and the Fletton and London Brick works clad huge swathes of the country — and the city itself — in brick, roofed in clay and later concrete tile. The Victorian railway terraces, the interwar suburbs and the large 1960s–70s New Town townships (Bretton, Orton, Werrington) give the city a roofscape dominated by clay plain tile and concrete interlocking tile on shallow pitches, now reaching the age where the concrete tiles delaminate.

Set on the low, damp fen edge, the city contends with a flat, exposed landscape and, on the drained peat around it, the ground settlement that can distort older roof lines. The medieval cathedral precinct and the historic core bring conservation-grade slate, lead and stone work of a different order.

For homeowners, the honest questions across the New Town estates are usually about the ageing concrete-tile and flat roofs — overhaul or replace — while in the older brick terraces it is chimney, valley and nail-sickness work. Keep gutters clear given the flat, damp setting.
