Roofers in Winchester

Winchester is Hampshire's ancient cathedral city and former capital of Wessex, with a wealth of medieval, Georgian and Victorian buildings around the cathedral and the old high street, much of it listed or within conservation areas. The roofscape is clay plain tile and natural slate over the historic core, with flint and brick walls, so visible work is frequently conservation-controlled and expected to match traditional materials using lime rather than cement.

Set on the chalk in the Itchen valley, inland from the coast, Winchester escapes heavy salt but the riverside ground brings damp. The historic buildings carry irregular roof geometry and need sound roof-to-wall detailing. For owners of the old stock, match clay tile or slate and use lime-based detailing, employ a conservation-experienced roofer, and check listed status before any visible change. Across the surrounding modern housing, assess ageing concrete-tile and flat roofs for overhaul or renewal, and keep gutters and flashings maintained.
