Roofers in Dunfermline

Dunfermline is an ancient Fife city and former capital of Scotland, with its abbey, palace ruins and a historic centre of Georgian and Victorian stone buildings roofed in natural slate, much of it within conservation areas. The older stock brings the familiar chimney, valley and nail-sickness work of ageing slate, and visible work on the historic frontages is expected to match traditional materials, while surrounding modern estates add slate and concrete tile.

Set inland above the Forth, Dunfermline takes a wet, often windy climate, so sound valleys, well-maintained gutters and secure ridges are the priorities, and roughcast render on many walls makes the roof-to-wall junction a detail worth getting right. For owners here, relay tired slate roofs properly once nail sickness sets in rather than patching, match slate and detailing on the conservation-area stock, and keep ridges secure and gutters clear against the rainfall. Keep chimney and flashing work sound on the older townhouses.
